The trial included 1068 men who had biochemical recurrence after primary therapy for localized prostate cancer and a PSA doubling time of 9 months or less.

The ARTO trial included 157 patients who had not received prior systemic treatment for metastatic CRPC and had no more than three bone or nodal metastatic lesions (patients with visceral lesions were excluded).

And a time-dependent analysis revealed an increased risk for local recurrence in the no radiotherapy group for women who discontinued endocrine therapy compared with their counterparts who did not (HR=4.66).

The authors of the second study drew on the UK National COVID Cancer Antibody Survey to identify 3555 patients with cancer who received two or more doses of a COVID-19 vaccine between 1 September 2021 and 4 March 2022 and underwent SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing during the study period.

The 101 patients with an MRE11 NC ratio above the cutoff of 1.49 (equivalent to the first quartile threshold) had significantly lower DSM than the 34 with a ratio at or below the cutoff, with respective 4-year DSM rates of 21% and 41%, and a hazard ratio (HR) for DSM of 0.50.

The team used information collated from the Trilliant Health claims and encounters database used across the USA on patients aged 21–85 years who underwent guideline-concordant screening between January 2017 and December 2021.

And they add that the results were similar in the subset of patients with active cancer and in sensitivity analysis excluding those “who received a combination of cytotoxic chemotherapy and PD-(L)1 inhibitors in the IO group.”

For the study, Meera Ragavan and colleagues, from the University of California, San Francisco, identified 530 adults with a nongynecologic cancer who were enrolled in investigator-initiated phase 1–3 clinical trials at their institution for at least 14 days during January 2019–December 2021.

By comparison, both prechemotherapy IL-6 and CRP were elevated in 25.6% of participants who remained clinically fit postchemotherapy.

PROs in the trials were assessed via the Global Health Status scale of the EORTC Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-C30 GHS) or the EuroQol Health-Related Quality of Life 5-Dimension, 3-Level visual analog scale (EQ-5D-3L VAS).

They used the most recent iteration of the study – GBD 2019 – to estimate the contribution of 34 behavioral, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risk factors to mortality and ill health due to 23 different tumor types.

The study included 903 individuals with thoracic cancer who were followed up for a median 70 days after a diagnosis of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection, the majority of whom lived in the USA (91%) and had recently received systemic therapy (53%).

Health outcomes included cases detected, life-years, and quality-adjusted life-years.

The case study published as a research letter in JAMA Neurology includes a woman in her 60s treated for recurrent lung adenocarcinoma who presented with progressive symmetric facial paresthesia of her nose and forehead and hypoesthesia of her neck and shoulders.

They speculate that this difference could be due to “the fact that in the United States, [mammograms] are mostly performed through private health insurance, whereas in Europe, they are usually provided as part of the public health care system.”

The analysis included data on 168 patients (89 with NSCLC, 79 with melanoma) who received first-line TKI therapy with dabrafenib, vemurafenib, gefitinib, afatinib, or erlotinib between January 2015 and April 2017 at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Adding the PD-L1 inhibitor adebrelimab to first-line chemotherapy significantly extends overall survival for patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer, Chinese investigators report.

Around a quarter of phase 3 randomized controlled trials for advanced cancer show an improvement in global quality of life and this is significantly linked to improvements in overall survival, Canadian researchers say.

Patients who had a low RS of 11 points or less were assigned to the control arm of the study (n=868), while those with an intermediate RS of 12–25 and a response to ET, defined as a central Ki67 score of 10% or below, were assigned to the experimental arm (n=1422).
