The current study included 273 cancer survivors aged an average of 61.1 years who had received platinum alone (12.8%), taxane alone (56.8%), or both (30.4%) for breast, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, or lung cancer.

Specifically, lung cancer and hematologic cancers were associated with significant 68% and 42% higher risks for death relative to other cancers, respectively, whereas breast cancer and gynecologic cancer were associated with significant 49% and 24% lower risks for death compared with controls.

The most common malignancies were gastrointestinal (33.4%), breast (22.5%), lung (16.0%), genitourinary (15.0%), and gynecologic (8.9%) cancers.

The most common tumor types were breast (19.5%), head and neck (17.6%), colon (17.1%), and gynecologic (10.8%).

The risk for death from ovarian cancer is around a third lower among women who regularly use aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs after diagnosis, compared with nonusers, US study data show.

Responses occurred at once daily doses of 270 mg or higher, and included one complete response in a patient with endometrial cancer and seven partial responses in patients with cervical, breast, endometrial, colon, and rectal cancers.
