Synthetic lethal interactions may be dependent on certain intrinsic conditions such as genetic background, hypoxia or metabolic changes (part Aa), or extrinsic conditions such as treatment with DNA-damaging agents, which results in synthetic cytotoxicity (part Ab). Conversely, synthetic lethal interactions may be suppressed by conditions such as genetic background mutations (part B). The star shape denotes a mutation.
