Professor Thomas Seufferlein is the Director of the Department of Internal Medicine I at Ulm University in Germany.

He completed his medical degree and doctorate at the Technical University in Munich, Germany. He went on to become junior and senior house officer at the Department of Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetology at the Free University, Berlin, Germany.

Professor Seufferlein attended the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) in London, UK, where he was a German Research Foundation fellow and then an ICRF postdoctoral fellow. After completing training in internal medicine and gastroenterology he became the head of the Gastrointestinal Growth Regulation Laboratory at the University of Ulm.

Since then he has obtained board certification for internal medicine and gastroenterology, gained an Extraordinary professorship, been a member of the steering committee of the pancreatic cancer and the colorectal cancer group of the AIO (a working group for internal oncology of the German Cancer Society), and coordinator of the German S3 Guidelines for Diagnosis and treatment of Pancreatic Cancer.

Professor Seufferlein has been the principal investigator in over 50 national and multinational clinical trials, in particular in the field of gastrointestinal oncology. He has also contributed to over 270 journal articles, and is the Editor in chief of the German Journal of Gastroenterology.
